Sæheimar Natural History Museum and Aquarium
A visit to the Natural History Museum is an adventure in itself. There you can see both living and stuffed fish as well as most species of birds around Iceland and a remarkable rock and stone collection.
Sæheimar, the natural museum of Vestmannaeyjar, has twelve fish tanks with common fish from Icelandic sea, the bird exhibit in the museum has exhibit of most birds in Heimaey, and the mineral exhibit shows minerals from all Iceland.
One of the most exiting thing to see in the museum is a alive puffin that people can see and may be even hold. There is also a nice small touching tank which is interesting for the kids where they can view and touch crabs, starfish, urchins, and small fish..
Summer (May 1st-Sept.30) open every day: 10:00-17:00
Winter: Oct 1st - 1st of May, open on Saturdays from 13:00-16:00
