Your journey begins as you depart from the harbor and head straight into the open Atlantic, where the coastline of Heimaey rises sharply from the sea in towering volcanic cliffs.

As you cruise along the island’s edge with our local guides, the boat slows near some of the most striking natural formations, giving you time to fully take in the views and capture photos. You’ll glide past sea caves and hidden coves carved deep into the rock, where the ocean surges in and out beneath you.

One of the standout moments comes as you approach the famous Elephant Rock an incredible basalt formation shaped like an elephant dipping its trunk into the sea.  Bet you didn’t think something like ‘elephant rock in Iceland’ existed in the Westman Islands.

Looking out across the water, you’ll also catch sight of Ellidaey island, home to the remote cabin often called the loneliest house in the world, perched alone in the vast Atlantic ocean.

Throughout the tour, the cliffs above come alive with seabirds such as puffins and northern gannets soaring and nesting along the ledges, while the waters below may reveal seals resting or swimming nearby, giving you a truly unique experience up close to the untouched nature of the Westman Islands. We might not see baby puffins as they hide in their burrows, but we’ll see the parent’s being busy soaring above back and forth to gather food for their young.
