We get alot of question regarding Landeyjahöfn and the ferry, so we decided to put them in one good FAQ for you.
Do I need to book tickets with the ferry in advance
We highly recommend that you book your ferry tickets to Westman Islands in advance. The island is “buzzing” in the summertime and we have alot of big events taken place on the islands.
If you want to bring your car over you should always book in advance since it is very common that the ferry is fully booked for cars.
I am renting a car and I don´t know how long it is
Most cars are under 5m in length that is including regular station cars and small jeeps. So if you are renting a basic car you should select when booking a car that is not longer then 5 meters.
Can i use your tickets to enter the ferry
Our tickets are more like vouchers. You will hand that confirmation to service desk in Landeyjahöfn and they will give you a boarding pass. Please show up 30 minutes before each departure
Do i need to bring my car over to Westman Islands
No, not really. If you are travelling over the summer time period it is just great to walk the Westman Islands and get the feel for the extraordinary nature that surrounds us. Westman Islands is kinda small so most attractions are within a 5-25 minutes walking distance.

What happens if Landeyjahöfn is cancelled due to weather
If Landeyjahöfn is cancelled due to weather or harbor conditions, the ferry either tries to sail later that day or sails to another harbor in Þorlákshöfn (Thorlákshöfn), that ferry ride is 2 hours and 45 minutes. If you had a ticket for Landeyjahöfn and they move the sailings to Þorlákshöfn then your ticket is valid for a trip from Þorlákshöfn (you just need to let us or the ferry company know in what trip you will use it).
