I you are not familiar with this hidden secret of Iceland then lets us tell you a little bit about this wonder of an islands. The Westman Islands are a cluster of islands that can only be described as a wonder of nature but in 1973 there was an volcanic eruption that took place on the main island (Heimaey), the eruption lasted for months and it buried part of the town in lava and many houses are still under the lava today.

It is difficult to describe the power that Vestmannaeyjar has and many people do feel overwhelmed when visiting the Westman Island due to their unique nature and landscape. The island is surrounded by small islands, mountains and volcanoes. Not everyone knows this but after the eruption ended in 1973 then inhabitants and volunteers came back to the Heimaey and started digging up the lava so they could continue living there.
